Ross Cooper is an artist, designer & director. Ross is primarily concerned with the power of good ideas. His varied experience and skills allows him to tackle projects in an open-minded and flexible way, through the most appropriate media. As an artist he has exhibited widely throughout Europe (Berlin, Linz, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Riyeka), Asia (Bangkok, Taichung and Tokyo) and at the ACMI in Melbourne and Siggraph in Los Angeles. His original thinking and innovative solutions have resulted in numerous awards including 2 Silver D&AD's, 1 Silver nomination and 3 'in books', the Gold award from the Art Directors Club of Europe as well as awards from Ars Electronica, Disney, Intel, ACA Media Arts and the Royal College of Art. Ross teaches graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.

The majority of his design consultancy work is confidential research and development and as a result of NDA's cannot be shown here, but includes product innovation, concept design, interaction design, immersive environments, interactive narratives & scenario planning. Recent clients include Sony Ericsson, Sony, HP, Lexus, Johnsonbanks, BBC's Creative R&D and Ford’s Future Products Group.

Crumbs concept CD player | 2005

Crumbs is a simple & innovative cd player concept and an example of behavioural design. To play a cd you press down on it, when it finshes, it pops up, ready for you to swap it or push it down to play again. When playing a ring of led's on the front face indicate the number of remaining tracks, which switch off as each track ends. The physical design acknowldeges Fukasawa's work for Muji. The Johnson Banks website | 2005

Ross consulted on the design and interaction of the Johnson Banks website. Johnson Banks are one of the leading UK design consultancies. The XML driven Flash site built by Matt & George has a unique personality and uses a dynamic, scalable, word driven, spider diagram interface which is as hard to describe as it is easy and fun to use. The interface flexibly showcases a large amount of Johnson Banks work, identities, logos, posters, writing and more.

The Last clock | 2001...

Last is a clock that records history. The clock has most recently been exhibited at Siggraph, Ars Electronica and in 'Navigator' in Taiwan which featured the best of the last 15 years of digital art. The clock has won numerous awards including 2 Silver D&AD's visit the Last clock website for more details. This project was a collaboration between Jussi Ängeslevä and Ross Cooper.

Mr Jones watches | 2004.

Are a series of working digital wrist watches designed to provoke thought about the cultural functions of watches and suggest alternative visions. for more information visit the website. This project was lead by Crispin Jones with Anton Schubert & Graham Pullin both of Ideo and Ross Cooper.

Fliker.com is an image search engine and an inspirational tool. As you type & refine your search, you see results as fast as your connection allows. You can scroll back through images by dragging the timeline. Any image you pause on, is copied to your clipboard and can be pasted into any application. Made by Jussi & Ross.

Ford Visos version 2.0 | 2004.

Biganimal & Ross Cooper were asked to develop the 1st version Visos interface and dashboard into working prototypes that could be displayed across multiple interior mockups of the car as well as being showcased along the 100 ft video wall on the Ford stand at the Geneva International Motor show 2004. The Ford Visos Concept car is a show case for new ideas in automotive electronics and interaction between man and machine. Biganimal & Ross Cooper developed and designed the digital dashboard and onboard computer installed in the Visos concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2003. Soft Cinema | 2004.

Soft Cinema by Lev Manovich mines the creative possibilities at the intersection of software culture, cinema, and architecture. The project investigates how the new representational techniques of soft(ware) cinema can be deployed to address the new dimensions of our time. With Stuart Sinclair, Ross Cooper produced motion graphics that illustrated the narrative of Mission to Earth.

Howies make t-shirts with a commendable philosophy, I designed this, sent it to them and they liked it and decided to print it. It's their 4th largest seller, so they have resurrected it, in red and dark blue, buy one.

Both Universal Leonardo with Us Two & Johnsonbanks.co.uk with Matt & George have been shorlisted for the 2007 Design Week Awards in the same category.

Johnsonbanks.co.uk has just been selected (twice, Interface & Art Direction) for this year’s D&AD annual, which is a bonus.

Ross has been appointed to consult on Universal Leonardo an innovative project aimed to broaden and deepen our understanding of Leonardo da Vinci in conjunction with Us Two and KeepThinking.

The Ford Visos HMI has been highly commended in the 2005 Design Week awards as well as 'in book' at D&AD 2005.

The Ford Visos HMI (in conjunction with Biganimal) has just been nominated for the 2005 Design Week awards.

The Last clock just received a BAFTA Nomination for the 2005 BAFTA Interactive Awards.

Ross Cooper Studios has just started designing the book 'Photography' by John Ingledew for Laurence King. This is the 3rd in the series following Typography & Fashion Design. To be published Autumn 2005.

A study of simple mouse & keyboard driven interactions focused on the dreaded Online Form try this simple version which just has just 6 questions. The full version with 20 questions runs as an installation and is not available online. Requires Shockwave player ver. 8.

Illy cups traveling exhibition | 2000.

Ross designed this show of unique coffee cups. The show had to be installed in 4 hours and Ross' solution was to package each individual cup in a clear inflatable pillow and suspend them from the gallery ceiling allowing them to be safely handled, the lighting and signage were likewise suspended. Ross lead the team of students who designed and produced the degree show catalogue cd-rom which featured 150 students work and contained of 2500 images as well as video and interactive work. the team included Matt Hyde & George Agnelli and John Sinclair, Arielle Breit, Segolene Hutter & Enrico Benco.
